What Is Girls in Action?
Girls in Action® (GA®)
is a WMU® missions organization for girls who are age 6-11 or in grades 1-6. GA can help girls in your church
begin to develop spiritually towards a missions lifestyle as they learn what God is doing in the world and discover their
place in God's plan.
The purpose of GA is summed up in the GA Pledge, Motto, GA Scripture Verse, and
GA Lifestyle Verse:
GA Pledge:
As a GA, I will do my best to live a missions lifestyle that
honors God by
• Learning about missions
• Praying for missions
• Giving to missions
•
Doing missions
• And participating in the work of the church.
GA Motto:
Go Forward!
GA Scripture Verse:
"Give thanks to the Lord. Worship him. Tell the nations
what he has done. Announce how honored he is" (Isaiah 12:4 NIrV).
GA Lifestyle Verse:
"The
Lord has shown you what is good. He has told you what he requires of you. You must treat people fairly. You must love others
faithfully. And you must be very careful to live the way your God wants you to" (Micah 6:8 NIrV).
What About a Girls in Action Meetings?
Our Girls in Action usually meet for an hour once a week. The
girls have lots of missions learning experiences! These include many kinds of small-group and large-group activities. During
the first half of each GA meeting, girls participate in one or more hands-on learning activities. Then they come together
for a group time led by the leader or assistant leader. Group time may include games, mission stories, prayer, Bible learning,
and other activities.
For the fourth meeting of each month, girls may work on WorldVenturesTM, an individual achievement
plan. If some girls choose not to do World-Ventures, alternate activities are available. The fifth session of a month (once
a quarter) may be used for planning or doing a ministry project called a Live Action Project.
